Building physics is simply about understanding how energy flows into and out of buildings and how this energy flow affects how occupants feel and how much the building costs to run.

Our practical approach to building physics is based on over twenty five years’ experience of working with design teams and their clients to support the development of a workable, comfortable, low energy design.

Building physics – typical projects:

Hindhead Campus, Surrey Quality teaching facilities that are naturally ventilated with high levels of natural light and controlled solar gain. The client team developed their design ideas into a successful design supported by the experienced application of simulation tools.

Central Veterinary Laboratory, Weybridge Autopsy rooms consume a lot of energy and laminar flow systems are used to contain contaminants. The issue was whether it was possible to reduce the air flow volume whilst maintaining standards.

Bluewater, Kent Extensive wind tunnel test data was integrated with simulation tools to develop the ventilation strategy and to design the exceptionally large car parks to be naturally ventilated.

Gloucester Quays, Gloucester A shopping centre that is warm and welcoming with no mechanical ventilation, no heating and no mechanical cooling. The application of building physics enabled an ‘open door’ centre with all year comfort.

Westfield, London A high quality, air conditioned environment which consumes 40% less energy due to innovative engineering. A range of advanced simulation tools supported the design team to realise an energy efficient design.
